Raiders Are Reportedly Too ‘Cash Poor’ To Fire Josh McDaniels

Josh McDaniels is feeling a little bit of relief.

The Las Vegas Raiders have taken a complete step backward from where they had hoped to go this season. After the Las Vegas Raiders’ end-of-season fight to make the playoffs last year amidst all the adversity the team faced, it seemed things could only go up, especially after they went out and signed Josh McDaniels.

The team then went out and traded for Davante Adams. It was looking like a possible Super Bowl year. It has been everything but that as the team just cannot string wins together and they find themselves at the bottom of the AFC, with only the Houston Texans with the worst record.

Despite a disappointing 2-7 record through 10 weeks, the team reportedly cannot fire Josh McDaniels because they do not have the money to do so.

“They don’t have the money to fire him.”

The team is “cash poor” and can’t afford to fire McDaniels.

On Sunday, the Raiders, in a must-win game to save their season, lost to the Indianapolis Colts at home. The Colts just hired Jeff Saturday whose only coaching experience was in high school.

This was supposed to be the lock of the season. The Colts jumped out to a 10-0 lead and won, 25-20.

McDaniels said he believes that is still where the team is.

“We are building. I never use the word ‘rebuilding,’ or anything like that,” McDaniels said in his Monday press conference. “It’s the National Football League, there’s not five years to do that. So we know that. I think there’s a process that we’re trying to go through. Certainly, slower, and more painful than anybody wants it to be. We share the same sentiment, but it is what it is. When you go through change, there are some things that you’re going to see initially, and there are some things that you’re going to see over time. And when you have enough opportunity to make those evaluations and then try to get it right eventually, that’s the opportunity that you’re hoping for.

“We can only control what we can control going forward. Like I said, I have no issue with where our effort is, or our intentions. Certainly, the results are not what anybody wants them to be. But we’re going to continue to build and try to do the right thing as we evaluate it going forward. And that’s all of us, I know that. I’m not going to stand up here and address that every single week. But we all know we’re evaluated on what we do and it’s a production-based business.”

The Raiders are 2-7 on the season and look to be fighting for draft position at this point of the year.

McDaniels, the former New England Patriots offensive coordinator, has now lost 24 of his last 31 games as a head coach.
