Our Flag Means Death Starts Filming on Season 2

New episodes are now in development for Our Flag Means Death. Created by David Jenkins, the first season of the period comedy series premiered on HBO Max back in March. After spending a few months on the bubble, it was officially renewed in June, and it has since been revealed that new episodes are planned for a 2023 arrival on HBO Max. This was obviously good news for fans who were concerned that the show may not get renewed and had been campaigning for it to happen.

Taking to Twitter, Jenkins has now announced that filming has officially started on season 2. He posted an image from the set of a slate featuring the season 2 logo for Our Flag Means Death while noting that production has begun. You can see the post below.

“It’s a rough one to not pick up on after what happened at the end of it,” Jenkins had previously told the L.A. Times before the show was renewed. “It’s a particularly rough one. I hope they figure it out. I hope they want to do more. I know everyone in the show wants to. Just to go on [social media] and see it trend for like two weeks feels unreal. It’s so gratifying, even not knowing if you’re renewed, to see that people liked it that much.”

On what might be coming in a second season, series star Taika Waititi added, “I’m waiting to find out too because this is all in David’s brain. I just look forward, if and, hopefully, when we go forward again, to see that time when they are in the same room together again. All of those little social nuances and details that we all relate to, I want to see that stuff. It’s like the opening of Grease after their summer fling.”
