Shadow and Bone Season 2 Release Date Set for March

Fans should get ready to enter the Grishaverse, as Netflix has just announced that Shadow and Bone season 2 will be released in March 2023. Based on Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse novels, the series follows Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) as she discovers her power as a Sun Summoner. Then, with the help of her friends, she must use her newfound powers to save her home from destruction. In addition to the release date announcement, Netflix also released a new set of photos showcasing some of the new cast members who will be joining the series.

The first season of Shadow and Bone introduced us to an incredible world full of magic, mystery, and intrigue. Season 2 features a star-studded cast of newcomers, including Wylan Hendriks (Jack Wolfe), Nikolai Lantsov (Patrick Gibson), Tolya Yul-Bataar (Lewis Tan), and Tamar Kir-Bataar (Anna Leong Brophy). The new additions join returning stars Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (Inej Ghafa), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), and Ben Barnes (General Kirigan). The official synopsis of Shadow and Bone’s second season reads as follows:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“Alina Starkov is on the run. A beacon of hope to some and a suspected traitor to others, she’s determined to bring down the Shadow Fold and save Ravka from ruin. But General Kirigan has returned to finish what he started. Backed by a terrifying new army of seemingly indestructible shadow monsters and fearsome new Grisha recruits, Kirigan is more dangerous than ever. To stand a fighting chance against him, Alina and Mal rally their own powerful new allies and begin a continent-spanning journey to find two mythical creatures that will amplify her powers. Back in Ketterdam, the Crows must forge new alliances as they contend with old rivals and even older grudges that threaten not only their place in the Barrel, but their very lives. When a chance at a deadly heist comes their way, the Crows will once again find themselves on a collision course with the legendary Sun Summoner. Based on Leigh Bardugo’s worldwide bestselling Grishaverse novels, SHADOW AND BONE returns for a second season of new friendships, new romance, bigger battles, epic adventures — and a shocking family secret that could shatter everything.

The series has always been praised for its incredible visuals, and with a new batch of images released by Netflix, we can expect the second season to be just as visually stunning as ever before. From sweeping shots of Ravka’s vast deserts to close-ups of powerful magical creatures, viewers can look forward to being whisked away into another world.

The second season promises even more magical battles between good and evil. In addition, we can expect deeper exploration into the mythology of Ravka and its fantastical creatures—including Volcra, Grisha, Inferni, and Fjerdan Drüskelle (elite warriors). The series will also be expected to introduce some new characters from the other Grishaverse novels, such as Six of Crows. Leigh Bardugo recently predicted that Season 2 would reach even greater heights.

“This season I was able to step back and put the show more firmly in their hands. Readers are not only going to be surprised by the way that these storylines crash into each other, they’re never going to know where the next move is coming from—and that actually was a pleasure for me because I got to be surprised by my own stories.”

With its unique mix of action-packed battles and thrilling magical adventures, Shadow and Bone will surely be one of Netflix’s biggest hits next year. Season 2 of Shadow and Bone will be available on Netflix on March 16, 2023.
