The Second Serving Gets Explosive Trailer

The adventure isn’t over for Sam-I-Am and Guy-Am-I. Netflix’s hit series, Green Eggs and Ham, is returning for a second season! Judging from the trailer, which is viewable below, things are going to get even more crazy!

If you’re familiar with the works of Dr. Seuss, odds are you’re probably familiar with Green Eggs and Ham. The children’s picture book was pretty straightforward, with Sam-I-Am hounding Guy-Am-I (unnamed in the book) to try his famous dish until Guy finally gives in. The animated series, not surprisingly, takes the story a bit farther than that.

Guy (Michael Douglas) is introduced as a failed inventor that has given up on his dreams, while Sam (Adam DeVine) is trying to smuggle the rare Chickeraffe (Dee Bradley Baker) from the zoo to its natural habitat. Thanks to a switch-up of briefcases, the two end up stuck with each other on a road trip. As Sam and Guy start to get closer as friends, the two are pursued by hired hands of Hervnick Z. Snerz, (Eddie Izzard) an evil wealthy poacher who wants to have the Chickeraffe as part of his collection of rare pets. Meanwhile, a little girl named E. B. (Ilana Glazer) and her overprotective mother, Michelle (Diane Keaton), get tangled in on the adventure as well. The show is beautifully animated by Warner Bros and is only matched by its charming writing.

Green Eggs and Ham premiered on Netflix on November 2019 and was a hit with critics and audiences alike. The show went on to score a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Casting for an Animated Series or Special. Now that the series is heading into season 2, what’s next for our charming friends?

Green Eggs and Ham (Netflix) and The Butter Battle Book (Directed by Ralph Bakshi)

Season 1 of Green Eggs and Ham ended with Sam and Guy on the pursuit of Sam’s mysterious mother. According to the trailer, it turns out she’s an international spy that is tasked with what is considered to be Seuss’s darkest children’s book! That story is 1984’s The Butter Battle Book!

For those that are unfamiliar with that lesser-known Seuss story, The Butter Battle Book was Seuss’s response to the Cold War. The book is about the warning nations of the Yooks and the Zooks, who constantly fight over the correct way to spread butter on bread. The picture book follows a Yook soldier as he defends his side of the dividing wall against his enemies, each side fighting back with bigger and bigger weapons. The book ends with himself, and an enemy Zook soldier, each holding what is essentially a metaphor for an atomic bomb, waiting to see who drops theirs first.

According to the hints from the trailer, it seems like Sam, Guy, and E.B. find themselves entangled in the political war between the Yooks and the Zooks. While Sam is trying to rekindle the relationship with his mother, Guy is struggling with his new role as a father to E.B., who is also struggling with her own feelings on a new guy friend of her own! The idea of including the plot of The Butter Battle Book is nothing short of clever for the crew, the satirical drama from the war plot practically writes itself for these characters. With Guy being an inventor, it’s only natural that he could find himself roped in to invent new whacky weapons. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see what kind of trouble Sam can get into while trying to keep in touch with his mother.

The wait isn’t going to be for much longer, Green Eggs and Ham: The Second Serving premieres on Netflix on April 8, 2022!
