Will Grand Admiral Thrawn Make His Live Action Debut Before Ahsoka? Lars Mikkelsen Responds…

Could we see the live action debut of Grand Admiral Thrawn a little earlier than expected? The character is now confirmed to be playing a major role in the upcoming The Mandalorian spinoff series, Ahsoka, but some have theorized that he could make a minor appearance beforehand. Asked recently by ScreenRant whether “live-action Thrawn make his first appearance in Ahsoka, or could we see him pop up sooner?” returning actor Lars Mikkelsen offered a frustratingly coy response…

“I cannot answer that.”

Such an answer is sure to have Star Wars fans’ heads spinning with possibilities. If the dreaded Grand Admiral Thrawn were not due to appear until his live action debut in the Ahsoka series, would Mikkelsen not have simply said “no” and thus ended any kind of speculation. With this in mind, we can likely expect to see Thrawn make he leap from animation to live action sooner than we thought… but how much sooner exactly?

Considering that the name “Thrawn” has now been dropped into The Mandalorian Season 3, could next week’s finale be the moment that the Star Wars villain makes his way to the stage? Only time will tell.

Created by author Timothy Zahn for a series of Star Wars novels, Grand Admiral Thrawn is an imperial military leader and member of the Chiss race. Leading the remnants of the scattered Galactic Empire against some of the Star Wars’ best-known heroes, including Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca. Tall with blue skin and glowing red eyes, fans have been waiting patiently to see the character make his live action debut, and with Star Wars Rebels star Lars Mikkelsen now confirmed to be reprising the role, it seems like that patience is about to finally pay off.

Ahsoka Will Debut on Disney+ Later This Year

Disney+

Ahsoka will bring beloved Star Wars: The Clone Wars character Ahsoka Tano back into the fray and finds her investigating an emerging threat to the galaxy following the fall of the Empire. More specific plot details are currently being kept under wraps, but the recent trailer for the Star Wars series teased many elements from the animated Clone Wars series, including the return of former con artists-turned-Jedi Ezra Bridger, Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren, and, of course, Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Developed by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni for Disney+, Ahsoka sees Rosario Dawson reprise the title role, with the rest of the cast comprised of Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka’s former Jedi mentor.

As for The Mandalorian Season 3, the somewhat divisive season will continue the journey of Pedro Pascal’s title character, a bounty hunter traveling to Mandalore to redeem his past transgressions, his adopted son Grogu aka Baby Yoda, and fellow Mandalorian Bo-Katan Kryze.

The Mandalorian Season 3 began last month, with the final episode, Chapter 24, all set to land on Disney+ on April 19, 2023, while Ahsoka is likely to land on the streaming service in summer 2023.
