Christina Applegate Still Plans to Voice Kelly Bundy in Animated Married… with Children Revival

That animated revival of Married… with Children is still in the planning stages, but the cast is waiting to hear when they’ll get started with recording their voiceover work for the project. That’s the latest update on the revival from Christina Applegate, who played Kelly Bundy on the classic sitcom. After years of reboot rumors, it was reported last year that Applegate and the other original cast members would return for an animated Married… with Children revival. Alex Carter (Family Guy) was reportedly on board to write and serve as showrunner for the series, but it wasn’t clear which network or streaming service it would land. No major updates have really come forth since.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Applegate addresses how she has since stepped away from doing on-screen acting due to her multiple sclerosis diagnosis. The final season of Dead to Me will serve as her last live-action performance. But Applegate isn’t retiring, as she clarifies that she still plans on doing voiceover work, as that’s much less taxing on the body. As Applegate explains:

“I can’t even imagine going to set right now. This is a progressive disease. I don’t know if I’m going to get worse. I can do voiceover stuff because I have to support my family and keep my brain working.”

Applegate then shared an update on the animated Married… with Children show, noting how she can’t say anything too specific, but confirming that she’s on board along with her old co-stars, presumably Ed O’Neill, Katey Sagal, and David Faustino. With that said, she adds that the project is a bit up in the air, as they’re still waiting to see what happens with the revival.

“I can’t really say much, but all I know is that all four of us are attached to it. It’s not in our hands now, so we’re just kind of waiting.”

It’s Time for the Bundys to Get Animated

Fox

Married… with Children was created by Michael G. Moye and Ron Leavitt. It originally aired for eleven seasons between 1987 and 1997. It follows the lives of the Bundy family, while Amanda Bearse also starred as their neighbor, Marcy. Originally, Marcy was married to Steve Rhoades, played by David Garrison, but when he left the show in its fourth season, Ted McGinley came in as Jefferson D’Arcy, Marcy’s new husband.

There were previous efforts made by David Faustino to make a spinoff series that would put an older Bud Bundy into the lead role. That project was announced in 2014, though it wound up fizzling out before production could ever begin. Applegate teased in 2017 that they were still trying to get the spinoff off the ground. Talk of going animated, however, only came about more recently.

Classic episodes of Married… with Children can be found streaming on the free streaming platform Pluto TV. They are also available to stream on Hulu and Peacock.
